Seattle: The Big Day!

The next morning Nate and I attempted to overdose on caffeine before heading out that morning.  We both drank most of a pot of coffee and headed out to visit the base where Nate works.  I had never heard of Electronic Attack, but apparently it is the only base in all the armed forces to use it.  The planes fly in and jam the radar before an attack and their missles follow the radar waves back to their origin to blow it up.  We also got to see a lot of the cool planes that Nate supplies with goodness.

To further our overdose we both got large iced mochas on the way to Seattle.  Not the wisest of moves.  We were both extremely jittery as we were driving and were in desperate need of solid food when we arrived at the space needle.  I figured that we were just going to be touristy and go up to the overlook on top, but Nate being the man of awesome he is had gotten us reservations for brunch in the amazing rotating restaurant. It was really cool.  I thought the entire top rotated but it was only the floor of the restaurant.  You go all the way around in 43 minutes.  Other than wounding my knee trying to take Sydney up a very thin stairway to find a bathroom, brunch was wonderful.  I had crab mac and cheese.  And it was even more delicious than it sounds.

After the Space Needle we of course needed more coffee so we went to see the Pike Place Market which not only has the fish throwers but also the very first Starbucks.  Nathan and Sarah would have been in heaven.  It was a huge farmers market with all sorts of goodies.  The most tempting thing for us was a guy who was painting people's names in a colorful picture style.  We realized that we really didn't have a way to bring that back home with us so we instead bought some delicious apple sausage for grilling.  We didn't get fish because it wouldn't have survived the trip back to Oak Harbor without a cooler.  After walking the market we headed back home.

On our way back this time we didn't take the ferry.  Instead we drove around to DECEPTION PASS!  Yes DECEPTION PASS is not made up, and it is the best name ever for a landmark.  It is also a beautiful area between Fidalgo Island and Whidbey Island.  The bridge had a walkway going across on both sides so we took a little jaunt across.  It's called DECEPTION PASS because when Vancouver was trying to find a passage inland he tried to go through here and went around the island only to discover himself back in the ocean.  DECEPTION PASS!!!  That was our last stop for the evening before heading back for more brew and Game of Thrones.
