Piaget's Pupil

Sydney has been making a lot of developments recently.  She can now sit all on her own, and prefers this while she plays.  We've gotten out quite a few new toys for her.  A rolling giraffe, stackable rings, and a big monkey basket.  Monkeys will never disappoint. She will eventually end up on her belly or back.  Usually this happens because she throws herself (or as Chris would say her Thunder Thighs) at whatever toy she wants to play with.  She's much better at moving around the room by rolling.  You can tell that she wants to crawl, but anytime I try to help her put her legs under her mass she gives me the straight leg shiver.  She has started to shimmy a bit, and she uses this skill to turn herself and get to other places that rolling wouldn't normally go. 

We also noticed last night that she has started to develop object permanence.  She was not tired at all last night but she was mad at her toys for being anywhere that wasn't her mouth.  So I was holding her on my lap as Cherilyn finished reading Game of Thrones.  (Quick Interlude:  Read Game of Thrones!  It's awesome!  The HBO show is instilled with splendor as well.)  And we're back.  Sydney was fixated on the Playstation controller.  I tried every other toy.  We read 3 books which only vaguely distracted her.  She really really wanted the controller.  I turned her around and she would turn back.  Even after reading for a few minutes she would still turn to look for the controller.  Sydney is in between stage 4 and 5 of object permanence.  She will continue to look for hidden objects and will try new things to retrieve these objects.  Such as throwing herself backwards and attempting to somersault over my arm to get to the controller, and dropping the book to distract me so that she can lunge for the controller.  Sneaky sneaky.

Also recently she has been able to control her flips better and can now stop on her side.  This has become her preferred sleeping position.  As soon as I put her down she turns right over onto her side, which is somehow even more adorable.
